On Wednesday 31st October, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Rathbones, the Friends of The Royal Marsden, Chelsea were proud to host a marvellous evening of history and reminiscence at the Churchill War Rooms in Westminster. In this incredible underground bunker, history was made while Britain's leaders plotted the allied route to victory during the height of the Second World War.
During the evening, guests were able to browse around the labyrinth of rooms and corridors stretching below Westminster which sheltered Winston Churchill and his war cabinet from the German bombing raids.
Thanks also to the generosity of a very kind benefactor, guests were able to enjoy copious amount of Pol Roger, Churchill's Champagne of choice (and who are we to argue)?
The drinks, canapes, company and unique surroundings resulted in a highly memorable evening which gave everyone a unique opportunity to enjoy a private viewing of the War Rooms, including the interactive suite where guests could immerse themselves in the days, weeks, months and years, of meticulous planning leading to V-Day and the end of World War 2.
We are hugely grateful to Rathbones for their very generous sponsorship as well as to Working Title Films who provided us with complimentary DVDs for each guest.
Our volunteer organisers did a sterling job arranging the evening to great effect. Thanks to them and most especially to you, for supporting us.
