6th Annual Bridge Event - 2nd-30th November 2026

Picture
We are delighted to be able to announce that we are hosting our 6th Annual Bridge Event. The easy format of sending you a pack of cards with 16 specially devised hands, created by Zeb Stocken,  to play with your friends in your own homes has proven to be such a success.   The pack includes cards, pencils, a handbook with the answers, score cards and instructions.  The idea is simple, enjoy playing the set hands at any time during the month of November  whilst raising money for the wonderful Friends of The Royal Marsden, Chelsea. If you want to compete please send your results to [email protected] by the end of November 2026.

To book click on the play bridge button below or if you can't play and just want to donate please click on the donate button.

Once again thank you all for your participation and generosity.
Zeb, Janie and Emma

Zeb Stocken
Zeb comes from a family of bridge players and teachers.  He started playing at six, played in the English junior squad in his teens and has now taught bridge for 30 years. Firstly at the Andrew Robson Bridge Club then running his own London clubs, before moving with his young family to Bath in lockdown.  As well as live and online teaching, Zeb - together with sister Claudia - runs Stocken Bridge Breaks, very special bridge holidays to Morocco, Europe and around the UK: www.stockenbridgebreaks.com.   He has recently built a new platform for students and teachers: www.bridge128.com including Handle, the best app for improving your card-play. Played in over 25 countries, it's taking the bridge world by storm:

Janie Gill
Janie has been volunteering with the Friends of the Royal Marsden, Chelsea for over twelve years  helping to run the cafe, and more recently the shop, which she has helped to keep open during much of lockdown..  Janie's passion in life is the game of bridge.  Not only does she play, but she has become a brilliant teacher, as some of you will know. Her patience, and ability to explain this complex and exciting game in a clear and logical way is one of her main attributes, and  she always makes the lessons challenging but fun.  Due to her connection with the Friends Janie has kindly offered to support both Zeb and the Friends to make this a wonderful bridge experience.

In 2025 year we raised £17k.
The funds will be used to purchase an Ultrasound machine for pain relief. Ultrasound is a safe, painless imaging technique that uses sound waves to create pictures of the inside of the body and is commonly used in pregnancy to view the developing embryo.  It is also extremely useful for guiding certain types of injections and for giving regional anaesthetics.  When ultrasound is used for pain injections, a small handheld probe is placed on the skin.  This shows a live picture of the tissues underneath, including muscles, joints, ligaments, and nerves.  This allows the clinician to see exactly where the needle is going and can guide it precisely to the right spot.  It is also used for regional anaesthesia, which involves numbing a specific part of the body eg the arm, leg or chest area, so that an operation or procedure can be done without general anaesthetic.  Overall ultrasound guidance helps treatments be safe, more accurate, and more effective.  It provides realtime images without radiation and is now a routine part of modern pain medicine and anaesthesia.
