Huge thanks to the Young Friends who, together with support from OKA furnishings, funded a long overdue refurbishment project for the Critical Care Unit..
Thanks to their generosity the overnight, interview and waiting rooms for friends and families have been upgraded and revamped to create comfortable, calm retreats from the clinical areas in the unit. Emma has been a volunteer for six years and as well as being an active committee member, and now Co-Chair and Trustee, also runs the busy outpatients Cafe.
Linda has been a volunteer for nine years and has been Vice Chair for the past six years. As well as being an active committee member, and now Co-Chair and Trustee, she also runs the tea trolley. Susie has been a volunteer for seven years and during that time has served on the Committee for six years as Vice Chair. In addition, she is a buyer for the hospital shop. In an attempt to update our rather tired and maybe just a teensy bit dated sandwich labels, we have opted to move from coloured to white with a bit of branding to boot. It's been a bit of journey (cringe) but we've got there in the end. Prices or no prices? Upper case or lower case? Colour coding or no colour coding? With so many willing and able volunteers making sandwiches day in and out we had to make sure that as many, if not quite all, of them as possible, were happy with the result. And here it is - in glorious technicolour. Hope you can spot the solitary newbie in amongst the oldies...and please don't say, you prefer the old ones. Labelgate is over. Full stop.
The Cafe kitchen refit is now complete and thanks to the generosity of Howdens Joinery, the Friends now have a brand new, shiny, super efficient, hygienic and well designed kitchen. Over the course of a few working days, it was out with the old and in with the new, including new flooring, appliances, fixtures and fittings. Commenting on the refurbishment, Volunteer organiser in charge of the project, Olivia Stirling said:
"The Cafe kitchen was literally starting to fall apart before our very eyes and, thanks in no small part to the generosity of Howdens Joinery, we are now proud to be able to do our work in a fabulous new environment. It has given the important Cafe area a new lease of life and patients and staff are now reaping the benefits of having drinks, snacks and food prepared and served from the new kitchen." HUGE THANKS TO HOWDEN'S JOINERY, FULHAM AND TO ALL THE COLLEAGUES AND STAFF AT THE HOSPITAL WHO PUT SO MUCH HARD WORK AND EFFORT INTO MAKING THIS HUGE UNDERTAKING A REALITY. |
